Lice or Mites - Tried DE and they're still there... What to do?

Mine have mites as well. Went to the feed store looking for permethrin poultry dust. They've been out of it all week. The girl today recommended crushing marigold seeds (as permethrin is derived from marigolds) and mixing with cornstarch to dust the girls. Any guesses if this will work?

I'm not sure about the marigold seeds. But when mine had mites I couldn't stand the thought of inhaling all the dust so I got ivermectin pour on and used that I wormed and treated for mites at the same time.

I think it is chrysanthemum flowers, not marigolds (or are they the same thing???). I have always heard chrysan. was the source of pyrethrins.

sorry ya'll I hit the wrong button and I have asked the mod to take it off.

I drop for small bantam female, 2 drops for bantam male, 3 drops for average bantams, 4 drops large bantams, 5drops for most commercial fowl 6 drops for giant breeds.... use ivermectin every 3 months, to control. You can also use Eprinex which there is no withdrawl from the eggs with it. Apply same amount.

I too have been dealing with mites in the small coop and on my girls, 9 month old BO and a BR. I didn't notice anything until I noticed that the tiny creatures were on my hands when I opened the coop door or touched anything - nesting box, hens, etc. Then we could see them scurrying along the coop frame. I started with DE about a month ago - really saturated the coop - which has a dirt floor, mixed with pine shavings. It's very dusty and dry. The mites were much less noticeable in several days. I started dusting the hens a couple of weeks ago. One loves it! However, I am still finding a few mites again - on an egg, for example, or when I pet a hen. They free range in the yard almost every day for several hours.
The owner of my feed store suggested using flee powder for kittens. Most likely this has pyrethrins or permethrin. I'm going to try that next I think if I can't find poultry dust. Sorry so many people have the problem but I'm glad I'm not alone in dealing with this.
