So here is what I did with excellent results (which I will repeat in 10 days).
This was recommended by the agricultural dept at CSU.
I cleaned out all the straw from the area (though the lice live on the chickens and this was not necessary I did it anyway).
I then used a permethrin solution spray (per label instructions for spraying livestock areas) for the whole entire chicken area. I then sprayed the birds with permethrin but the solution but different concentration for spraying livestock. I plucked feathers that had lice eggs.
I then dusted the area and a little bit on the birds when they dried with permethrin and DE.
I will repeat with only dusting in about 10 days.
When I was finally done with all this I checked the most infested birds and no lice was seen.
I can finally sleep tonight!
