Lies Spread Quickly RP

Autumn stopped at an old, gnarled tree, whose branches twisted awkwardly towards the sky. She stopped, and placed her front paws on the trunk, looking meaningfully at a hole in the tree's warped form.
Ignacio waited patiently for her to do whatever she was doing, and sat down against another tree.

Tess bit her lip, instantly wary of the stranger. "What's it to you?" she said, her voice hoarse with disuse. He would ask for payment, she knew. Payment in return for a meal, that would work. Maybe. She wasn't sure she had anything to pay him with.
And besides, it wasn't any of his business where she was staying.

" Fine, kid, I ain't gonna bother you. You can follow me if ya like, imma gonna cook up a nice big slab of this here ham, along with a big chunk of fresh cheese an a bit o sourdough loaf. I'm almost outta potatoes, but there's a few left if you fancy." He squinted off in the distance, towards his home through the forest. "It's a fair distance from 'ere anyhow, but if ya feel like it, an ya ain't got Noone, the loft ain't had nobody living up there in years." He turned away, looking distant for a moment. He wasn't going to press, either she would come or not. Sighing, he took up his journey again.

Biting her lip, Tess decided to follow this old man. "I'll pay you," she told him stubbornly. "I'll pay you for a hot meal and maybe a night's stay, but that's it."

Greymane shrugged his shoulders. "Th' name's Greymane, an I don't intend on asking a kid to pay me money, but if you wanna help around the homestead, I would be much obliged." He nodded his head in acknowledgement, glancing to make sure she could keep up. "There's room up here on th' Boss is you wanna ride with the stuff, or throw your stuff up there. It don't look like you got too much."

Tess shrugged. "I'm good," she told him. "I can walk."
Tess considered the new turn of events: He wasn't asking her for money, but rather... Work.
Tess could work.
She sniffed the air, a wolf instinct emerging in human form. Strangely enough, she smelled the dark, dank odor of dog on the old man.
"Do you own dogs?" she asked.

"Nope," he replied. He raised an eyebrow at the question, weighing if he should risk asking one of his own, but let it linger. "Don't need no dogs harassing th' livestock."
They turned up a narrow but well worn path cut through the forest. The sweet breeze played with the trees, causing the light to dance across the forest floor. He sniffed the air, breathing deeply, sighing. It always felt better out of that congested, overly smelly place.
