Greymane pointed a little downhill from the cabin. He chatted while walking. "There it is, running along the creek, it's my field. It got plowed recently, so all we have to do is plant. We should get the sets done first. There's a trick we can use for the potatoes, garlic, and onion sets. It's something most people can't do." Greymane gave a sly grin. " I use my wolf to plant the big stuff easily. Paws dig way faster than clunky hands and trowels. I'll set my bag at the edge of the field here, an I'll head into those bushes for some privacy. Don't wanna mess up my clothes, ya know, haha!" Once they reached the edge, he set the bag down, then poured out the potatoes to make them easier to grab with his jaws later, doing the same with the onions and garlic. "You'll wanna watch when grabbing the garlic and onion sets, if you nick them with a tooth, it can leave a strong taste in the mouth! Hehe."
Tess grinned at Greymane hesitantly. No one had every really asked her to Change before. The few people she'd told about her Ulven blood had quickly left her. So she had stopped telling people.
Then she remembered how fast she had been to stalk that chicken. She would have to be careful, she knew. She didn't want to slaughter the cow, or the calf, or any of the animals on the farm. She had a feeling that Greymane was testing her.
She walked into the tangly woods, stripped out of her clothes, and Changed, with only a tremor of discomfort.
Looking at the farm through a wolf's eyes left Tess feeling wild. Reckless. Food was
everywhere. The lazy cows, slow chickens, and the smell of more to come? Not to mention the strong scent of human that lingered on the wind.
Tess shook her head. She wasn't even hungry - and why would she
eat Greymane? The thought troubled and repulsed her.
But still, the bounty of meat here was much more than she had found on her meager raids in the town's woods. She had to stay out of the way of hunters, which was hard in itself, but there was no prey at all there. The hunters had hunted most of the meat.
Tess snarled in disgust, determined not to let her deep-set hunger mess this up for her. She meekly walked to the spot where Greymane had left the burlap bag, the sights and smells a bit overwhelming.
