Life is changing for us, and it is not for a positive reason

Smoking is very bad both for the smoker and those around them. Both my parents died from the effects of it. My dad died of emphysema, and my mother died of a lung condition caused by exposure to cigarette smoke. But if a person cannot quit, and a few can't, there is an alternative. Do not smoke in the house or in the car. Ever. I have friends who smoke, and this is what they do. That doesn't solve the problem of the smoke in their hair and on their clothes, but it does cut down on the smoke in the house, and their car doesn't smell like an ashtray.

As an ex-smoker I have to agree with cassie. Last night on the news it was reported that there has been a significant drop in children being admitted to hospital with asthma attacks in the UK following the banning of smoking in public places. It has been found that because people are used to going outside to smoke, they do this in their own homes as well, smoking in the garden. This is all good news for the next generations health.

I know it's better that the smoker's go outside to do so BUT, I can't even enjoy the benches at an outdoor mall because the smokers take them over. Not thrilled about the people that sneak a smoke in public restrooms (probably the employees) and stub out their cigarette on the toilet seats - how cool is that??

I am new here and do not know anyone but I just want you to know my thought and prayers are with you in your time of need. My best friends husband has Alfa 1 and all 6 of there children have it also. I'm sorry to hear this for you.

We are doing ok with quitting smoking. So far so good. I am also a supporter of people being able to do what they want in public places. We can always go somewhere else.

I agree with you to a point. But too many smokers fail to consider that while smoking is optional, breathing is mandatory. In a smoke filled room, I simply cannot breathe. There are businesses here I do not patronize for just that reason.

No smoking in any businesses here, but some places are making it illegal to smoke outside or even in your own home, which I feel is going too far. I am not a supporter of big government anyways. I can stay quit if Ken does. That is usually the reason we fail.
