Oooh, I am so sorry for the loss of your dad, your son's Grandpa, and the loss of your happy plans for this summer.

I don't know the particulars but perhaps it could still be meaningful for you & your son to go visit your dad's home place and do something he liked to do there in the summertime. It would be a way for him to "get to know Grandpa" and might mean more than attending a funeral. Maybe ticket prices would be less costly then and travel restrictions lessened at that time.
