"Life with AD/HD" thread

Hi everyone-- while there have not been posts for almost a year-- perhaps there are a few of you still roaming BYC and will pop back in.

I watched a PBS program recently that had me seeing ADD and ADSH in a new light. We can't control our genes but we can help turn them on or off to prevent or mitigate ADD symptoms AND alzheimers. ALL about the diet and some behaviors we can try to control.

low carb diet, no sugar, and no gluten

My daughter was diagnosed at 19, lady feb and was unable to find a medication that worked. She is now doing done thing called neurofeedback. Interesting stuff

THat is an incrediable method-- many uses. How is it working for her?? OFten it takes a bit of time to see the full effects. SO just wondered.

I only figured out I was ADHD since my sons diagnosis-- and he finds it helpful to not be alone and we can discuss his concerns.

I am eager to get the ADD packet put together by Dr Amen for a more complete diagnosis. Apparently he has defined 7 different ADD/ADHD. He says it is important to know which one, or combo, to treat properly. Meaning traditional medicines might work on 2 types but make another worse. ANd how to use food and supplements to help support the brain function.

THe packet wont come for another 2-3 weeks so I ordered his book to get a head start. I have always loved his PBS programs about the brain.

His son is ADD and was not diagnosised until a tween. OR was it his daughter . . . YEs, daughter.

Hi there. Well my daughter has only done a few days so far...she started at the first of June and will go until late July. So we don't know yet. I've also looked into essential oils that I read about a few posts back. I have a friend who is really into them and she gave me some samples for my daughters headaches, adhd, and anxiety. So, hopefully my daughter will try them. She gets headaches from stress, caused in part by the ADHD, (unable to finish anything including meeting deadlines for school,) and not breathing properly. I think it would be cool if she found the oils to work!

The oils are very interesting 00 I didn't know they could be used for anti anxiety-- is it like aroma therapy??

I was reading in Dr Northrups book to day about herbs that can be useful too. SHould I go look them up again and list them for you?? I like her thinking, Dr NOrthrups, a doc trained in trasitional medicines ( western medicine) but was drawn to the Eastern medicines and prefers that as first choice treatments. A good read for all women of all ages.

Go to post 75 and following. That's where I got my initial info from and then I went and talked to a friend of mine who uses them religiously. I hot some samples and gave them yo my daughter. We shall see!

I am so thankful to find this thread. For years I have researched. I am so thankful to find others willing to share. I am looking forward to checking out the food site and how its affects.

Here is what I have found out that does help.
Pure Essential Oils. The prices vary. These oils are pure and are used for many things. Please go to www.everythingessential.me for anything that ails you, this is your information center. Then to buy products go to www.mydoterra.com/newoils to purchase the pure oils. These range from ADHD, ADD, Focus, Memory, Acid Reflux, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Wet Macular Disease, Colitis, Crohns, MS, inflammations, fungus and the list goes on. I use deep blue on our animals where an antiseptic is needed. You do not have to register to sell this product. Click on the tabs at the home and look for your protocol, then go to check out, this should pull you up all different kinds of oils and oil blends to choose from with descriptions of what the oil is used for. This has been a great asset to our family. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at [email protected] I will be glad to help with any and all information that I can. I have used supplements and researched for a long time to find out that the oils are great along with supplements.
Make the www.everythingessential.me work for you. Put in the search bar what you feel think or need then click on home protocol tabs oil tabs to find out what works. You then would buy from the www.mydoterra.com/newoils click on check out, shopping skip all the rest unless you want to be a distributor. I have researched for years for our family going to the Natural Stores asking, asking, and researching. Oh I am so thankful for you, your information and posts. I will help you in anyway that I can just email me. These are pure oils not oils that additives in them (other cheaper oils).

Examples Are:
Serenity,Vetiver,InTune, Frankencense, Lavender
Calming Blend

Stress is a major contributor to illness and disease, in fact, it is estimated that more than 90% of all visits to health care professionals are related to stress. Serenity is a blend composed of individual oils with known calming properties which create a sense of well-being and relaxation. Lavender, sweet marjoram, roman chamomile, ylang ylang, sandalwood and vanilla bean create a subtle aroma ideal for aromatic diffusion or topical application. Applied to the bottom of the feet at bedtime, dōTERRA Serenity is an excellent way to promote restful sleep. Added to a warm bath Serenity creates the perfect escape with its peaceful, renewing fragrance. For topical or aromatic use.

Frustration seems to be par for the course-- I contacted the orignal person that tested my son and have hit another dead end it seems . . .she suggested the Hollowell Center which is physcially close but they do not take any insurance-- it is pay as you go and sub mit bills to insurance company and hope they will pay up. In the current climate of lossing monsy ( or raise their rates) the insurance companies will avoid paying when ever possible is my guess.

I have been reading a new book : SMart but Scattered. A great step by step how to manage the behaviors and the outbursts in a constructive manner. Using charts to mak step by step to do lists,a nd work on a reward system as positive reinforcement. No wonder I need so many lists to help get organized!!

Dr Amens book got moved to the top of my reading list. More detailed info on how to manage ADD including management for each of his 7 types.

Unwhittingly, I have been drinking green tea all winter and this is supportive homeopathic remedy. So as of today I am back to 2 tea bags a day and see if I notice any improvement. Previous consumption had been for the anti oxidants. WIn-win.
