This is a week old Hatchery Chick from Meyers. The shipping label indicates this is a light Brahma. Back is black, light wing tips, underbelly is light grey, feet are feathered, face is yellow but has a lot of black markings (see picture).

I know there can be a lot of variation in Hatchery birds, but the face markings are throwing me. Do I have a light Brahma here or does this resemble another breed?

We’re at week 3.5 and this bird is feathering so much slower than the rest. Still not looking much like the light brahma i ordered. Maybe a mixed breed? Or maybe this is a LB and i just need to be patient. Here are some updated picks.

I think I have this figured out. As mentioned, this was supposed to be a light Brahma hen. I know the hatchery will substitute a similar breed if they don’t have the hatch rate they expected of what you ordered. I think what I have here is a Silver Laced Cochin. Both breeds are sold by Meyer Hatchery. Here are some updated pics at 6.5 weeks.
