Marans come in many different colors. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them were part Marans. Try swirling food dye on the vents if your hens, and see Wich one lays the egg.

It will definitely work...just don't use red, unless you're sure you won't forget that you did the dye and think that someone is bleeding lol
you can do one chicken with none, and the others can each have a different color.

Could they possibly be Midnight Majesty Marans? That’s a hybrid sold by Hoover’s Hatchery. I think other hatcheries call theirs by similar names like Mystic Marans. Maybe they got mixed up with the Australorps.

Marans don't always have feathered legs.
American and French Marans usually do, but where I come from, we rarely see feather legged Marans.
Definitely looks like a Marans egg, but other breeds can lay dark brown eggs, Welsummers being one.
And I agree all your LB are female.

I have a few mixed breeds but the lady I got them from does not have either of those but does have Marans....however, I witnessed one of the black hens laying the dark brown eggs this weekend.

She's probably a cross. Wonder if she has some barnevelder in her. It would be interesting.
