I am going to get a new breed next year, and I am wondering about Light Brahmas.

Hows their temperment?

Do they get broody all the time?

And.. egg laying ability.

Brahmas have a gentle easy going temerment!

some will get broody in spring but, I was able to break that a few years in a row!

I was breeding Buffs & have had many roos & they are Great too!

When I was a kid we had a Light Brahma that seriously hatched out 32 chicks!! And she took care of all of them... I think we lost maybe 1. She was amazing. They would be worth having just for mamma hens.

I agree with RChicks. Nothing fazes mine. We can be working in their coop and they carry on with their chicken business like we aren't even there.
Mine are still young (8 1/2 months) so I haven't seen any signs of broodiness yet. So far, my hens don't show any interest in their eggs beyond laying them.
Living in Beaufort, you might see a behavior that I've read about and seen in my own flock. When it gets extremely hot during the afternoons my flock finds a shady place to lay down and they stay put; only doing their foraging during the cooler morning and evening hours. That's how they cope with the heat.

We got some light Brahma from Stromberg's...the male was the most EVIL thing I'd ever seen.

F1 and F2 generations..the males are so sweet and docile. When you pick them up, they talk to you the entire time. Mr. Mom, my Light Brahma male, is 10 years old this year.

I love my Light Brahmas, my first choice is Brahma if I ever never have another breed. Hoping for some Buffs to hatch this Spring along with more Lights. They are great egg layers!!

They are large majestic beauties in the barnyard. They are so elegant ! Gentle giants truly. They never fight the other roosters and are very calm. I agree on the broodiness ! You need some for your flock

Give them a try.

I just got a light brahma trio this past fall and i love them. I got 2 buffs this spring and they are great also. They lay great sized brown eggs. They are pretty good broodies. I already have one of my light pullets sitting. Great showbirds. Here are some pictures.
