I use a 250 watt red heat lamp bulb from TSC.
I have it in a hanging fixture I got at Petsmart that is intended for reptile enclosures.
It has a ceramic base to prevent melting and fire hazards due to the high/hot wattage of the bulb. It also has a built in dimmer switch so the intensity/heat from the bulb can be adjusted.
I live in Virginia where it doesn't get too cold at night, but I like to know they are comfy when the temps dip into the low 30's at night.
They are all spoiled.
On nights when they don't need the heatlamp, I turn on a red nightlight for them.
I know......spoiled rotten chooks.
Did I mention that I also have a baby monitor in the coop so I can hear them from my nightstand at night?
*obsessed*
