light bulbs

I quit worrying about this because, after not much research on the topic, it shouldn't take long for the gov. to relize it was a huge mistake.

The way I see it, if the Gov. was stupid enough to allow it to start, it will be a long time to stop!! They don't like to admit to being WRONG.

I have used the new type bulbs for a few years in my home. They only last about 2x as long as edison bulbs do. They can also be "shorted out" if the switch is turned of and on rapidly. I have had one of them explode when activating the switch and another one started smoking and looked like it almost caught fire when it finally stopped working, during normal use.

The cost of the bulb does not justify the energy savings if it does not last for at least 3 years, in my opinion.

I have begun to stock up on the old type bulbs for my brooders. Most of my family and friends had no idea that the old type bulbs were being taken off the market. My grandpa still refuses to
believe that it will happen.

THE MERCURY IS WHAT I WAS REFERRING TO AS NOT BEST HEALTH WISE, HERE IN US WHERE I LIVE THE 100 AND 250 RED HEAT LIGHT BULBS ARE $8-12.00, BUT THE WHITE 100 WATT BULBS ARE GOOD SOURCES OF HEAT FOR LITTLE CHICKS/QUAIL AND THEY ARE ABOUT 50 CENTS EACH DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU BUY I I
HATE TO SEE THEM TAKEN OFF THE MARKET. EVERY MONTH I AM BUYING ONE OR TWO BOXES OF 8 AND SAVING. WE HAVE HAD ONE SENATOR TRY TO REPEAL THIS LAW, IT CAUSED A FACTORY THAT EMPLOYED HUNDREDS OF WORKERS TO ALREADY CLOSE AND ALL THOSE PEOPLE ARE NOW OUT OF WORK. I UNDERSTAND THAT TEXAS IS GOING TO MAKE THEM FOR THEIR STATE, BUT I DON,T THINK THEY CAN SELL THEM OUT OF STATE.

Guess , What I live in Texas> You ever heard that song " I can help"

Are we just using the bulbs to brood with are yall using them to provide heat for your birds? If its for brooding I'd get the Brinsea Eco Brooder. I have the big one & I love it. No more silly dangerous heat lamps those things sux. I have never used a heater for my birds but then again I live in Texas. I have my coops, pens positioned to block the bad winds. The coops are also positioned to take advantage of the prevailing wind to keep them cool.

Here's 4 of my 5 coops.

I raise lots of chicks year round usually in small amounts and the 40,60 and 100 watt bulbs are perfect for my setup. Especially when I hatch weekly, it is hard to integrate different age chicks that need different heat requirements. Now if I have to use those huge energy using 250 watt bulbs I will be wasting energy, more money on the bulbs and more money on the power bill.

I learned about it here too!

I thought it was odd the stores had less, but just thought it was Wal Mart with their usual stupid ways of not ordering .

I believe you're absolutely correct in this! If you also follow the money trail of this change, you'll probably find that those who make these new [alleged] energy saver light bulbs are big supporters of those who pushed through and approved the change to begin with.
