light bulbs

If we don"t do something about all of this sh---t next election we will be a third world country in 2 years. You won't have to worry about your Quail

My feed for my Quail and chukars is costing about $36.00 for 100lbs which only last 2 days.I think it"s because of the corn shortage so they say! If this keeps up I"ll have to down size my bird population (B-B-Q) TIME Texas style

I learned about it here too!

I thought it was odd the stores had less, but just thought it was Wal Mart with their usual stupid ways of not ordering .

the reason for the shortages is one of the major manufacturers has already closed, i hear they will manufacture in mexico...maybe byc members who live near the border, can get them and sell to the rest of us. i really think though if we flooded our congressman with letters telling them how we use the bulbs that we could get this reversed. you can send them letters via e-mail and maybe we can do something about this. we need to let them know we use them for heat and that florsecent does not produce the necessary heat for chick/quail raising. i think the 100 watt will be phased out jan. 2012 and the other wattages will then be phased out in intervals.

That's the sad thing about this. A product that was made in the USA is now not made here, the plant shut down and I think there were 1400 employees that lost their jobs. When the ban is lifted, the plant won't reopen, because the bulb making biz has left the country and it will be too expensive to start from scratch again.

That's what our current administration is all about...Jobs, Jobs, Jobs.....

James, I bought 50 LB bag of GBS 28% for $ 12.25 & 50 LB bag of whole corn for $ 9.30 from Producers in College Station yesterday. Lay pellets 17 % were $ 11.20 for a 50 lb bag.

20% layer pellets were 12.85 / 50 LB
18% chick grower 11.25 / 50 LB
20% layer crumbles 12.85 / 50 LB
rabbit pellets 12.85 / 50 LB
28% game bird 14.25 / 50 LB

the mini horse and donkey don't eat much.. but I'll find out this weekend what their hay and feed will be for next month

I'm not in Texas but I spend $80 every three days on feed (200 pounds)
This includes GBS, chick starter (unmed), scratch, and finch seeds for mixing in with the GBS for the breeders.
Oyster shell comes in 50 pound bags so lasts a while if used without wastage. I do apologize changing the topic about Texas and feed. One of my good friends has quail and does research on feed there with me here (doesn't make sense but we are both trying to come up with good gamebird feed that's healthier).

I bought a full spectrum lightbulb the other day and the box says it contains mercury. I sure hope the bulb doesn't burst on me! I have combo lighting for my quail since they are indoors and I do all sorts of color and size projects in da lab

My only suggestion at this point is stock up my friends, get the uniheat handwarmers, because if we cannot get incandescent bulbs we can use those "other" bulbs but with the handwarmers as a heat source. With power outages those handwarmers have saved biddies here!
