I use a CFL in a metal fixture/shade for timed supplemental lighting in winter.
A 3 setting headlight for night chores and chicken exams.
Heating pad for chicks instead of heat lamp.
I use a 7 watt equivalent LED night light that runs dusk to dawn. It helps the chickens see when they are going to roost at night but isn't bright enough to keep them awake.
I use battery powered puck lights. It's for really gloomy days, when it's so dark that I can't see inside the coop to clean. Otherwise the coop gets plenty of natural light through the windows.
