Hi! I have been trying to find out how many hours of light the chicks should have per day in the brooder. I have read a lot of older posts and know that the heat lamp needs to stay on, but in addition to the heat lamp I have a florescent lamp that I was pretty sure I used for a certain number of hours per day that changed from week to week. Does this sound familiar to any one? Anybody else have separate heat and light bulbs? Thanks!

I read that for layers a 14 hour or so "daylight" is premium for egg production. As far as in the brooder, assuming they are young chicks, I don't tthink they need extra "daylight". Mine just get the lamp and sunlight through the windows. Mine are now into their third week.
