Do you have to have a light in the coop? Also does anyone know of one that runs on solar or batteries witha shut off timer?

I have power, but don't ordinarily burn a light all night. I feel they need the dark. It's mostly for an electric fence or for a heat lamp for new chicks. Last winter I did burn a low watt bulb from about 3 AM to sunrise to increase egg production; have not done that other years.
