This is my first batch of chicks (arrived on June 9th, so thinking they are about 1 1/2 wks old) and I have a question about lighting. We have 20 chicks and currently have a 250 w. red light that allows us to keep the brooder at 90. The brooder is housed in our basement and the lighting in that room is fluorescent. We keep this on during the day and I am not sure if it should be kept on at night also or switch to a regular 70 w floor lamp or turned off completely.

Thanks for any advice given..

The bulb you have in the brooder will be fine at night. You can turn the other lights off. The white light won't hurt or help them either way. The main thing is the brooder temp, water, and feed. Good luck to you and your fuzzy butts.
