Hey everyone, my 20 day old moulard ducks got cold lastnight, down to 70 degrees, so today i hung a 60w lightbulb in the brood to help the coil heat the place, will the light bother them all night?

Thanks for the reply, your probably right. I have a 65w dark purple light bulb that you couldnt even read a book under. ill put that in tomorow

I started calling them the garage ducks. Ive litteraly been raising them in a garage using everything in tge garage

The brood is a mastercraft tool box on its back. Pond is a drawr out of it. heatlamp is a shop drop light.

They nest in rags from the rag bag. Space heater i use for drying paint. I crushed their pellet feed with a hammer (pellets inside a heavey bag)

10 more days and they will be outside in the coop and run i made. Investment so far has been the price of the ducklings

In the night i put down dry carpet. and cover the top with a thin sheet. plenty warm and dry

Pretty interesting set up. 70 degrees F? That is pretty warm. ;)
Haha thanks, The goal is to get ducks cheaper than youd spend at sobeys. I dont value my own off time for hobbies

70 should be okay now but it seys 90 on hatch day. then drop 5 degrees every week and they were 2 weeks old

They were okay just huddled up

Yeah, ducks don't need as much heat as they say. Mine were off of the heat lamp for half of the day at 3 weeks. By 4 totally off and in a 60 degree building. I took them out to enjoy the outdoors at lower temps. They have done fine. Mine were put out when the temps were in the 50's at 7 weeks.

Iam keeping the heat up just because i want them to eat and grow as fast as possible

My buddy got two ducks at the fair last year and let them run wild in his yard.He fed them duck baby food but they were outside 24/7 and did nothing but feed them. they were a week old. They are massive, healthy. and act like little puppies.
