Lighting

I have my 6 3 day old chicks in a metal tub in the basement under a red heat lamp. Should I do anything in conjunction with this to provide white lighting? I do leave the basement fluorecents on during the day but they are not directly in the area of the chicks and it is kind of wasteful if they do not benefit.

I don't think you really need any other light. When our chicks were little they were in the feedroom in old watertubs with heatlamps. No other light. They were fine.
