Can anyone tell me if there has been a pole done to determine what members use the "like" button for?

I am interested to know if there is a general consensus to its meaning; or if the "like" button is, for want of a better word, "misunderstood".

I personally use the "like" button as a way to confirm that I have read the post and that I have appreciated the content regardless of whether or not I agree with it... but maybe I am using the button incorrectly?
:idunno

...and I use the "love" button to communicate that I really liked the post, lol. If that makes sense?

I have made this following comment on another thread, but I think it appropriate to repeat it here... If the occasion should arise where I find myself looking at a post like a dog with its head tilted to one side - trying to understand, but the information is just not being comprehended - in this case I might not respond due to lack of knowing how. This happens more often than one might think, lol; especially when things become too theoretical for my more creative mind.

As Lazy Farmer said...
Maybe I should be more conservative with my likes and use the feature more sparingly :confused:Lol.

It’s probably safe to assume “no harm, no foul” when something as innocuous as the “Like” reaction is employed.
(There are, of course, exceptions when brilliant humour is expressed: only to be met with fleeting acknowledgment rather than coveted guffaws. Alas.)

I have had me think... and you are absolutely right. I am being over sensitive to semantics; and I don't think knowing how others use the "like" button will change the way I use it...

...because it does not matter if I miss the target once in a while as long as we are all shooting in the same direction...

...only, I am getting older and my eyesight to see the target is worsening in this ever changing world of social media communication.
:old

Just yesterday I had to ask what the term "flipper" is (seen in the Pigeons and Doves section); and I had to look up what "imo" means.

I don't think we have done a poll for this, but I think it's a great idea! Maybe we could do a poll for each of the reactions.
