Lilly's Life:

Chapter 19

I looked behind me. Nothing was there. I shifted uneasily. Was anything really watching me? But I was so sure something was. I turned back around and didn’t move. If I made just a tiny move, something, or whatever that thing was that was watching me, could snap any minute.
I could see my breath. It was chilly out. I peeked to the left and right without moving my head. Yet nothing was there. I stopped holding my breath and sighed. I looked at the coop. Ok if I run as fast as I can, maybe I can make it in 5 seconds. I turned slowly to face the coop. Then I darted so fast I was flying through the cold air. I looked behind me. Something was chasing me! Was it a coon!? Then I saw it’s tail lick up and it was a raccoon! I screamed and kept running till I finally got to the coop and flew all the way up in the branches. He was growling at me. Where was everyone!? Where was Jaz!?
“JAZ!” I screamed so loud my lungs hurt. “JAZ! HELP! ANYONE! HELP ME!”
I was crying now. The coon had its gleaming eyes on me, ready to pounce any minute.
“JAAAAAAZ! HELP!” I screamed once more.
Then the coon stopped growling and bearing its teeth and stood straight up. I heard it too. Something was coming. Was it Jaz and my dad? Or the whole flock? The coon looked around confused and mad. His eyes were big and apprehensive. I looked at the human house and their shed. I squinted. I could barely see. The noise was getting louder by the second now.
Suddenly most of the flock appeared. It was only the strong hens and my dad and Jaz! So there was… one, two, three, four… six! There were six of them.
Jaz looked at me, “Lilly! Are you alright!?”
“I-I’m fine!” I stammered.
Then Jaz nodded and looked back at the coon. “Time to go petty raccoon!”
The coon bared its teeth and spun around to face him. Then Jaz lunged at him and the coon tried to fight back. My dad lunged at him as well and they were both fighting the coon. Then one of the strong hens went in. She was strong because she had long spurs and was huge.
I heard the coon whimper but kept fighting. I heard grunts as the trio kept fighting the coon. The other three strong hens were blocking the exit way out to make sure we defeat the nasty raccoon.
Then the coon backed out and was growling at them again. He had 5 scratches all over his body. Jaz, my dad, and the strongest hen had only one scratch. I didn’t think we could ever fight off a coon.
“What cha waiting for coon? Too scared?” Jaz smiled evilly.
The coon waited for Jaz’s lunges. He was just standing there. Then everything was a blur. The trio lunged at him but didn’t catch him. The coon ran and jumped over the other hens and he skidded in the weeds and into the deep forest.
I heard Jaz say something under his breath but didn’t quite catch it.
“He got away!” My dad yelled. “Oh my gosh and we almost had him too!” Everyone had frustrated looks on.
“I was soooooo close to getting him! So close!” Jaz said. “ I can’t believe this!”
I then flew down and gave them comforted hugs. “Maybe he’ll never come back? Haven’t you thought of that Jaz?” I asked him.
Jaz shrugged me off and walked away. Oh no, did I make him mad? I hope not….
