Chapter 29

I woke up from the sun shining in my face. I felt miserable. I was tired and cranky. No one was in the hen house when I looked around. I hopped down and went out to the coop to eat and drink. I felt very sluggish.
“Mmmmm.” I whined.
“What’s wrong?” Rose surprised me. I didn’t know she was right there.
“What? Oh, I had a horrible night. I couldn’t get to sleep.”
Rose gave me a hug. “It’s alright, Lil.”
Then I remembered. “Mom doesn’t know you’re here Rose!”
She laughed, “Don’t worry I already took care of that this morning.” She grinned.
I sighed, “Good.” I chuckled a little.
“Hey wanna go under the tree?” Rose asked excitedly.
“Sure. I guess.”
“Something wrong?” Rose asked with concerned.
“Nothing. Just remembered that Lacy is gone. Well in the house.” I sighed again.
Rose put her wing around me till we reached the pine tree.
“Oh great. Ginger is probably coming back out soon too. She didn’t look like she was in a lot of pain when I saw her yesterday.” I pouted.
“Eh, don’t worry ‘bout her.” Rose grinned.
“I guess.” I plopped down on the hard ground. All the snow has melted but I could tell there was going to be even more today.
I looked up at the sky and squinted. A snowflake fell on my beak. I gasped.
“Rose… it’s snowing!”
She looked up at the sky too, but instead of happiness, she looked sad.
“What’s wrong?” I asked her.
“A big storm is coming….” She looked down, “Pretty soon.”
“Well we gotta warn the others!” I nearly yelled.
“No.” She held out her wing, “They know.”
I stopped. Duh! Of course they knew… but wait… what if some of them didn’t?
“Rose… some of them probably don’t know. We have to warn them.”
She was starring at nothing in particular and didn’t speak. I looked back up at the sky. More snow was plummeting towards us. It was going to begin soon.
“Rose.” I shook her a little. “Rose. Rose.”
“Get. Inside.” She simply said.
“What? No? I’m not leaving you.” I protested.
“I’ll warn the others. Most of them are already going for shelter. So just go. I’ll meet you in the hen house.” She started to walk forward. The snow was now blinding. I couldn’t see!
“ROSE!?” I screamed out.
The snow was coming down even fasted and it blinded me. I moved forward.
“Rose?!” I squinted. “Rose?”
There was nothing but snow all over now. My feet were getting cold. It seemed like the temperature dropped 20 degrees. I started to shiver. I decided to just go to the coop. But I don’t know where I’m going! I walked against the wind and snow, trying to keep my balance. I walked for what it seems an hour and I still can’t find the coop. Am I lost?
