My young RIR was limping yesterday -- and she was girl who pecked (brought blood!!) but after using squirt bottle she no longer bothers me -- so I was cautious in picking her up and checking her over. I checked feet, leg lower body, under feathers and found nothing, but she is still limping today. Any thoughts? She also was reluctant to "hop" in coop last nite so I gave her a hand. Her appetite has remained same.
She was very good w/my holding and checking her out.
thnx

Look her feet pads over to see if she may have a dark spot, swelling, or redness, which could be bumblefoot. She also may have a sprain or a broken leg. Look for any redness, bruising, or swelling of the leg bones and joints. Forcing rest for 1-2 weeks in a cage with food and water may help. I would put the cage in the coop or run to keep her part of the flock.

hi - there is nothing evident either to sight or touch and she used to peck me -- just wondering if she jumped off something and injured herself. But you're right, I'll keep her in smaller pen area; thnx
PS: In fact last night I cleaned foot and put in epsom salt bath and she just sat there and let me.

they're not but thnx for knowledge--amazing--so much to learn, huh?

Do you have the plastic leg bands on her? If so, check to make sure one of the ends isn't digging into her leg. I had this happen. Hen was limping, couldn't get into the coop, etc. Removed the band and she was fine.

nope; nothing on the little gal. I think she enjoyed the epsom salt soak last nite tho'--and to think my friend recommended getting rid of her because she kept pecking me!!! Thnx for suggestions
Pat
