Limping and Weird Leg Lump

Your English is very good. I just wanted to use my cut and paste skills.

There are possibly the following things it could be: an injury, a disease process like an infection or a congenital defect. I think a vet might be the most efficient at telling what’s wrong.

If a vet is not an immediate possibility, wrapping the joint gently, isolating him away from other chickens, keeping him quiet and possibly giving him a baby aspirin for pain might help him out.

I have little runt pullet that has something like with her leg. I did have her isolated and gave her aspirin for pain. The swelling went down in her leg and she’s hopping and flying along with the flock. In fact she hangs out with the naughtiest chicken, Argentina, I think hers is congenital.

Thanks, in fact, it was really sweet of you haha :)

I went to the vet and the answer is osteoarthritis/arthrosis.
It was very weird because he is young, like 2 years old maximum.

Wanted to give a heads up to the community and also ask for advice (if there is any!)
I'm already treating him with vitamins and all the meds the vet gave me.
Unfortunately, I took too long to take him there, so his knee condition is pretty bad. :/

I'm now treating him, anything else I should know? Tips on food or meds for the future would be highly appreciated!

Good leg

Bad leg

May I ask what the vitamins and meds are? My beloved Delores is headed toward this kind of arthritis and I’m curious. I realize from your experience I should probably take her to a vet now.

Thank you and please let us know how he’s doing with treatment.

If I have any advice it would be to make sure he isn’t bullied by the other chickens. Bright blessings to you both!

Until @quickstep answers you, many vets use meloxicam for pain and inflammation in the US. B complex vitamins can be helpful with legs, and you can give 1/4 tablet crushed or ground onto food.

May I ask what the vitamins and meds are?

For inflamation, Prednisone 3mg/mL.
Using 1.5mL every 12 hours.
After 5 days, 1.5mL/day.

As for the vitamins, this one is called Condroplex 1000.
I'm in Brazil, but you will probably find in the US under another name. This is made for especially for joints of dogs and cats - but will work with chickens too!

It has: Glucosamine sulfate (300 mg), Chondroitin Sulfate A (200mg), Manganese (10mg), Zinc (10mg), Copper (4 mg), Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Gelatin (hydrolyzed collagen), Copper Amino Acid Chelate and Zinc Amino Acid Chelate.

It's a 1000mg tablet, 1 of these per day.

Pretty sure you will find something similar there, just have to search a little. haha
It was a little pricy here, but the reviews on the internet are very positive. I'm confident this will help him.

I'll keep updating here as new things happen!

This is a great tip. Somehow, I had totally forgotten about B complex.
It is well known that it is pretty good for their legs. Thank you!
