I have a 6 week-old RIR that has one splayed leg. It doesn't seem to bother her, but the hock joint is swelled and she walks with her leg splayed outward. Will she recover? Or are there measures I should be taking? She does seem to get along just fine, no problems getting food/water - I just worry that this is an infection and will get worse. Suggestions?

sounds like a slipped tendon, the same thing happened to one of my turkeys. feel its good leg around the joint while gently bending. then feel the bad leg joint while jently bending. if it is a slipped tendon you'll be able to feel the tendon off to the side of the joint while its bending. when I did this the tendon popped back into place on its own, if it doesn't you may have to help it with a bit of pressure. if this is the problem you should check it several times a day to ensure that it stays in place untill it heals. also be sure to seperate it (with a friend) from the others (if any) to give it plenty of time to recouperate.
    Hope it gets better.
