Hi everyone - I accidentally stepped on the right foot of one of my 13 week old pullets about a week ago. She was fine for a few days and then she started limping. I tried to put her away from everyone so she could rest but you could see she was visibly depressed to be away from the rest of the flock so she’s been sleeping in an enclosed area indoors at night so she doesn’t have to roost but during the day I confine her to the run so she has a bit of outdoor time. I’ve held her many times to look at her leg and touched it all over and nothing seems to be broken as she isn’t wincing at all. She is also still roosting but her grip isn’t as tight on her hurt foot. I also noticed yesterday that her toenail on her hurt foot is a different color than the rest of her other toenails (white versus a gray) but I’m not sure if the two are correlated. The past two nights, I’ve brought her inside to rest her leg fully at night but I’m still concerned. How long does something like this take to heal?

Do you have any pictures? I would leave her with her flock during the day, and observe that she is not being trampled or picked on. Is there any swelling or green bruising along the leg? Can she get to enough food and water?

Hmm. Usually different colored toenails are genetic. We have a girl that pulled something in her leg and has a bit of a limp. If she can get to food and using getting picked on too much, I would just keep an eye on her! Our girl has been living with us for a healthy four long ears and now the other chickens have accommodated.

Pictures attached. She’s not being picked on at all and there doesn’t seem to be any swelling or green bruising. She is able to hobble around with the flock getting plenty of food and water. 🤷🏼‍♀️
