I have a 3 month old Pekin Drake that has been limping over the past couple of days, there are no outside injuries and the leg or foot doesn’t seem to be broken. I’ve been giving them brewers yeast. What’s happening? How can I fix it? Thanks for all of the replies!! ❤️❤️

This could be a deficiency usually niacin and could be he isn't getting enough even though your using brewers yeast. What dose are you using to start with?

If you don't see any out ward injury or redness or swelling it could still be an injury but it won't hurt to add some liquid B complex to his fav treat and see if it is a deficiency Here is a good link that shows what to get and how to give it.

And please let us know how he is doing. Oh and what are you feeding him? and be sure to keep him for over exerting while he is like this rest and water therapy and B Complex is best right now. [Make sure he can get in and out of the pool easily also]

He’s eating chicken pellets right now, should I mix in some duck feed, brewers yeast, and liquid b to the food? I put 1/3 of a cup of brewers yeast in the feed every time I fill it up. Sometimes I put it in their water, just a little.

Brewers yeast can be a bit iffy on the niacin so if I was you Id get liquid B Complex and start using it for him. If this is an injury it won't hurt to give him the B Complex at all so would be worth a try give it to him in some thawed peas or dried meal worms what ever he really likes so you know he is getting a full dose.

So I could put it on his lettuce? He really likes lettuce and peas

Pekins are big and squishy. Which is why I love mine. But their weight can cause issues also. It’s hard for their legs to support the weight so they get injured easily. I have 1 female that I think will limp the rest of her life.:hit

However, let’s try some easy things first to see if we can get it back up and walking correctly. I would:

1) Try to put the duck and maybe a friend in a small area so the leg can get some rest. See if you can do this for a week.

2)Get one of the liquid b complex brands @Miss Lydia referenced above.

3) Give about 1mL of the liquid to the duck each day. Either on the tongue slowly as to not choke it, or on top of their favorite treat. My Pekins will eat it on peas, but they prefer it on mealworms. Do this also for a week.

It won’t hurt any other ducks to get the b complex so don’t worry about it. It’s good for them as well.

Let us know if you have any questions!
