Mine never care about what is in the water... the muddier, dirtier and bittier the better for them... they don't seem to like the boring clean water! They throw feed in there... mix it with bits of grass.. poop in it and then add dirt... nice soup for them.
I even put brewers yeast on their vegetables...and I tipped too much on by accident.. so it was caked in the stuff. .. and to my surprise they still ate it as normal.
Maybe you have very fussy ducklings!!!
