limping pullet, otherwise healthy *update: now with peeling skin*

How's your girl doing today?

I logged on to see ask how she was doing also. I just visited mine and I THINK she was limping slightly less, but it could be wishful thinking. Funny how similar things are - my girl even LOOKS like yours. Are you sure you aren't sneaking into my coop to take pics.

I have not put in isolation or anything. I figured that would just stress her out more and she is getting around okay. It is really unusually cold here too, so I feel sort of bad for her, but she seems to be doing okay.

Same here, but I think it's wishful thinking on the "limping a bit less"....

My wee one seems to have really weak legs on top of hobbling, not sure what's up with that. Will have to keep an eye on it. Bringing her in is a haven for her, she's quiet, warm and sleeping a lot. In the coop it's very stressful, she gets pecked on, it's loud and very cold (she's only starting to grow in feathers on her body).

She'll be in the house as long as it takes..

I love that little runt. Sigh.

I will post an update on Faith in another thread, it's a sad, sad story.

PS: your girl is WAY gorgeous, my little Faith looks like a Chernobyl survivor

See?

Ah, poor little Faith.
I'm beginning to wonder if I'm doing the right thing to leave my Lexi out there, but she seems fine, except for the limp. And no one is picking on her.

I think only YOU know what's best for your girl!

Every situation is different

I'm hoping that by restricting her movements, Faith will rest whatever she sprained but maybe that's not the right thing to do...

I dunno

Ummm technodoll, this is just an educated guess but you might want to start thinking up some new names for your Faith. Maybe something a little more masculine?

it actually seems like the limp is a tad worse today. i noticed her hoping on one leg a few times today. the strangest thing is that all those dark spots on her foot (from the previous picture) have gotten darker, including some of her toenails. maybe it's just a deep bruise that looks worse as it starts to heal... i don't know.

she's still happy and healthy though. appetite hasn't changed at all and she's enjoying watching the dogs as much as they are enjoying watching her.

i guess it's just a waiting game. if there isn't any improvement by this weekend, i'm gonna have my friend who is a vet come and take a look at her.

technodoll- thanks for the compliment. i was really disappointed for a while because i was expecting my gold-lace wyandottes (which she is one of) to be a lot more mahogany with thinner black lacing. as you can see, she is more black than red. but it's really grown on me. most of my flock is buff or grey and white, so i like seeing the little dark wyandottes bopping around the run.

she's not been named yet because i truly can't tell the 3 wyandotte girls apart, but now that i'm getting to know her better i think she might have to be Madeline. all my birds are named after book characters (go figure with my username, right?), so i think Madeline is perfect for her. if only my girl had a half-moon scar! (at least then i'd have some clue what was wrong, right?!)

She is a doll

Is there any way you could maybe put her in a small crate inside the coop, so that she's still with her flock but movements are restricted?

Not having to hobble around for food, water and getting bumped by other birds might help the leg get better?

Dunno, just throwing suggestions out there.

for Madeline!
