Hi, everyone,

My 18-ish week old Silkie hen has just started laying, and now she's limping. She's been attracting a lot of attention from our roosters. She's the first of our girls to start laying, so she's the center of attention right now...

She's been favoring her left leg for several days now. I gave her an examination today - she has good grip strength (she perched on my arm quite well and grasped my finger), she has good range of motion in her joints, and her crop is full. She's not weight-bearing on her foot much at all, though. I didn't see any obvious injury to her.

I'm going to look at her foot for bumble foot symptoms tomorrow. With bumble foot, should I feel a hard cyst, or is that not as common? Is there anything else it could be? I was wondering about a joint injury from an over-zealous rooster jumping on her.

Isolate her from the Rooster for a while and see if she gets better if he's a lot bigger than her she could have injured it trying to escape his advances.
