Hi all,

my duck has been limping for the better part of 5 days. We thought she was getting better yesterday, but this morning when I let them out of the coop she was limping again. I'll be observing her for the rest of the day since none of the vets are open around here on the weekend to see if it gets better or worse the more she walks on it. It's not a bad limp and she doesn't seem to be much impaired though she moves slower.

Is this something I should take her to the vet for or is this potentially normal growing pains?

Our other two ducks who are the same age as her are walking like they normally do.

Please advise!

Kindly,
B

She may have an injury or bumble foot or a niacin deficiency can you check the bottom of her foot for any cuts thorns or a tell tale blk scab? feel for heat [much more than the other leg] or swelling anywhere from hip down

What are you feeding them? You might want to curb her moving around for a few days to see if that helps if an injury rest can help.

Thanks for responding! Yes, I've checked her feet out multiple times since the beginning of the week and theres no bumbles or heat. Its her left foot/leg. We give them purina flock raiser with added brewer's yeast.

What do you suggest for letting her rest it? She's such an active girl, but we could take her in for a few days if you think that would help it?

Honestly I would just leave her. She would most likely be stressed out inside away from the other ducks and if she is eating and drinking fine the only problem would be if she isn’t locked up at night a predator could get her more easily. It honestly sounds to me like she hurt it while playing in the pool or just tripped. My Rouen has a limp as well but is almost completely over it. I went to the feed store and got stuff to give her vitamin boost but that’s about it. Just keep an eye on it.

Just like people ducks hurt themselves. If you fell and hurt your leg or foot you would probably have a limp too lol. I wouldn’t worry too much about it since you said that she has no other issues with it.

If it does get worse then maybe keeping her out with everyone with maybe a buddy but where she can't be running around to much When my Runner was limping I kept them in a small area outside so she would have a few days to heal. Then just walked behind them of a ight to put them to bed. So that way they didn't take off up the hill. Make shift pen is what I am talking about. Good idea on the vitamins.

I just went out and checked on her and she's doing alright. Eating, drinking, and, foraging just as normal. What sort of vitamins do you give your ducks?

I give them a multi vitamin that my feed store sells. Different feed store offer different things. I would ask your feed store what they recommend and try that.
