The world needs more people like YOU!

Bunny

I have developed a strain of gree/khaki egg laying Barred Plymouth Rock with pea combs of course.
They are getting a bit inbred now, so i am going to add some more BPR hens and try a purebred Araucana rooster.

Bunny, no problem at all, and it was a well deserved

. It's just fantastic to see people so passionate about their birds and where they want to take them.

Ashburn: I'm just starting to learn what breeds lay what color eggs, and what factors effect egg color...but I am very well versed in just how much I love eggs that have speckles and/or color to them. Any chance we can see a photo of those eggs?

Ashnurnham, that's a nice project. I've been thinking of breeding in the blue egg into my Brabanters, but I should end another project before I have the facilities to begin a new one. I just love different egg colours in my flock, but want to minimise the amount of breeds laying them. So you got me thinking again...

Wow Nana, ambitious projects you have going. I absolutely adore the birds in the first picture. Such lovely coloring!
The coloring comes from the Lavendar (Blue) Cochin roo. He throws a lot of blue! Thank you.

NanaKat! I think you are on to something. I had some australorps last year that I adored. They are such sweeties to have on the farm. The combination you are working on looks like a winner to me.
Thank you so much for sharing! It takes real courage to post a project, at any stage. I have gotten a lot of good feedback about my "Baby Dolls", but I have also gotten some negative comments. Don't let any one discourage you from your project.
Good Luck and keep us posted!

Thank you for the encouragement. I will definitely keep everyone posted. It takes a longer time with LF to get to egg laying....6 - 9 months for the Cochin. My F1s are now about 2.5 months old. I'll post pictures as they get older to show growth stages.

Hi Everyone, I thought I'd send you an update on my latest hatch from my "Baby Doll" Cochin Project. I had 5 of them to hatch today. Here are some pics to let you see what they look like on hatch day! Almost too cute.

They are extra cute when they dry off and start walking around in the brooder. This chick was super tiny! Happy Easter.

I'm working to improve the Spangled Orloffs (both LF & bantam)...and all of the other breeds I'm working with! :) The gene pool is pretty shallow and people have been puppy-mill/mass-producing chickens for years...it's sad.

The one color project I have left are dun-laced Wyandotte bantams. :)
