Same thing Boomerge said. I haven't moved yet. Still dreaming about getting chicks. Where I live I REALLY can't have chickens not at all!

I only have two mistakes so far

1. Not getting rid of my lab mix the first time he killed chickens.

2. Not noticing the egg turner was broken for 3-5 days. Have 8 eggs left but I only think 3 are still alive we will see by friday.

1 Thinking that you buy chicks give them water and corn and collect eggs.

2 Buying feeder without outer lip to stop "billing" out of feed.

3 Not realizing soon enough that chicks eating each others feathers meant something wrong

1. Not building enough coops.
2. Not using craigslist for cheap stuff earlier on
3. Not ever hatching enough chicks out even though I don't have room for 30 puff balls due to #1

I'm so glad I only have 1 mistake thanks to you all!!!

Coop is not big enough, I can't expand my flock!!!

Although, I can "add on" LOL!!!

I can't wait to get some "cool looking chickens"...mine are kind of boring and flighty but I'm sure they will be great egg producers!! And they are spoiled rotten regardless!

1. Not doing a head count at bedtime after they had been free-ranging (RIP Rocky)

2. Not having hubby make the ceiling in the chicken house tall enough (ducking stinks, and moving the shovel around is WORSE!!)

3. Trusting my husband when he says, "yeah I checked their water" <translation: yes, they have some water. It may be black and have floaties, but they have some">

2. Too small a coop to start with.
3. Not making the coop easy to winterize.

I. I have five Buff Orp pullets, which are very pretty, but they all look the same. I should have tried to learn more about the different breeds before ordering. If I knew then what I know now (from everybody's pics on BYC), I would want some Ameraucanas and Golden Campines, or Sebrights.

II. Make the run higher. I'm always mashing my head on the run ceiling.

III. Make the run bigger. Ours is 5 x 12, which is adequate for five calm birds, but I'd still like it bigger.

1.) Ordering straight run special assortment (didn't like culling roos) and got several that look alike, I want more diversity in color

2.) Letting the dogs out before run was fully secure (but they culled 2 5wk old roos)

3.) haven't had a third yet......yet
