I found small hard paper littler boxes for the lops cages today.
filled with that 'spongy paper' and put them in

the buck was driven nuts by the box and is trying to destroy it
he has dumped it out and refused to leave it alone. he will not get in it. he is dragging it everywhere in his cage

the doe jumped in her's and dug around. she chewed a few times and left it
she is not dragging it around the cage

so how do I convince them to USE it and not just play/destroy it??

oh and Petco was out of rabbit odor out. but had ferret. didn't buy it til I could see if it was still OK for buns

I would use regular cat littler pans and woodstove pellets. That is what I use for my rabbits. However, my rabbits are spayed and neutered which does make a difference. You would also want to put the litterbox in the area that they go to the bathroom most. Also put a little hay on one side to entice them to go in the box.

we had a rabbit and litter trained him with a litter box with a layer of newspaper and then pine shavings. but when we switched the litter, he refused to use it. maybe you should try a few different kinds of litter to see what they like. and to give them the idea of what to do there, put droppings and dirty bedding in the litter box. after a while they realize that that is where poo goes.

I used plastic bunny litter boxes that fit into the corner of the cage with hooks so they couldn't toss it around. I think the brand name was "Long John". They were nice and high at the back to prevent spraying outside the cage, and very low in the front to make getting in easier. Just put it in whichever corner of the room or cage your bunny already poops in, and they should just do it in there.
---Does your male bunny have enough toys to play with in his cage? They do love to pick things up and toss them around - he may just be bored so he's playing with the litter box.
EDIT: You do have to experiment with different litters. My bunny refused every commercial litter and only wanted sand. Not just any sand, mind you - it had to be pure white imported sand!

well he destroyed his box. it is upside down in the cage..nothing but the bottom left

she sits in her's but is not using it

silly things potty right under their feeders so I can't get a litter box in their area.

this may all be a mute point. old neighbor stopped by and has a huge outdoor cage(s) and we can have them!

my last lops were not this hard to train!

Unfortunately, there was no good way to clean it - I had to change the sand every day. I told you she was an expensive little bunny! I had to start buying in bulk.

EDIT: You also need to clean every day because once the pee and sand dries together, it makes like a cement.

the doe is using her box!
well for pee at least.
she dumped out all the fluff and is just peeing in it

his is still upside down

Did you take some bunny berries and put them inside the box? If poo's not there, it can take longer for them to figure it out, so shovel in a small tbsp or so of dropping and they'll take the hint. Ours did just fine with the yesterday's news pellets we use in the cat boxes.

no, I forgot.

the kids had cleaned out the tray and there was none to put it
I'll have them throw some in today

nothing like an empty box to a rabbit!
