I'm still betting that they are springtails, but regardless of the exact identification everyone seems to be in agreement that they're harmless.
The "spring" in the name comes from their habit of jumping. I don't know how the weather is for you today but in Rhode Island it's about 60 today and I saw a few here and there. I expect you can find them under any old log in the woods but they're easier to see on the sides of brightly colored buckets and whatnot which is why we notice them ;)

Yeah I think so too! They look a lot like them and the jumping thing seems to be a dead giveaway. But either way, like you said, everyone seems to agree they’re harmless, which is good.

And :lau good point!!!

And it’s about the same here and very windy!!

Hmm, interesting. Do aphids jump?
They don't, actually. Aphids crawl or sometimes fly.
Aphids are often confused with whiteflies, which DO jump, and infest plants similarly to aphids. Even more confusing, both are commonly called "plant lice" while neither are lice at all.

But your little guys are not aphids, whiteflies, or plant lice. They're springtails.
