Little Giant Hatch Along

I don't understand why some people have to be negative like that?? When you have limited income you get what you can get and see if things work. I know several people that have used these incubators and have had good success with them. I don't like where it was made, but I can't afford to buy something that may not be any better!

Sorry, off my soapbox for now!!

Well it's really not about the cost, well maybe some but think of it this way, most of you have tried to do your research and then after reading the thousands of horror stories you still bought one. Now WTS almost all of these post require you to buy, get something, modify, do many different things in order to just make the thing work, how cost effective is that ??.
These box type incubators are mainly for small hatches and beginers and that's just great but if your just starting out hatching and you buy this thing for your first try, have all these problems, try and fix the problems, how is that helping. Most will get fed up and give up, we have all seen those post. I do understand that you can just walk in and buy one retail over the counter at any farm store and the better bators have to be bought online, but really. I am not being negitive it's just about the facts, think of it this way.............. if you are in the market to buy a new car and do research and everybody tells you about this one car and how crappy it is, would you still buy it and depend on it to transport your family, I think not. Then why do the opposite when hatching chicks, makes no sense to me is all.

barefoot, that is a lot of chicks!!!! do you sell them? My hubby who also bawked at my newly found hobby last year, is the one who just ordered 25 chicks, we are on a wait list till 4/25 but now that I have started incubating, he is all about the chickens! He is going to make me a nice brooder, an additional coop for bachelors to hang out in when they arent breeding! Spring is such fun! Im really hoping things go well with this first try in the bator!!! Good luck!!

I think a lot of people are intimidated by the idea of incubating and they're afraid to spend a lot of money on something that they're not sure they'll be able to do successfully. I bet any bator priced like the LG and available for local sale would be widely used.

There are some things I could care less to research and incubators and CARS are two of those things. I have found that the majority of the things my family owns are cheap in how much they cost. I for one would NEVER buy a new car, why would I want to put that much money into something that is going to just give me trouble?? And it's not just one kind of car that does that, it's all of them.

Our experience with this incubator is just that, an experience or experiment which ever!! Do you honestly think schools buy the most exspensive bators they can find to teach their kids about hatching eggs?? Maybe if they are in a wealthy community that gets thousands and thousands of dollars from the government. We are NOT a wealthy homeschool and the public schools in our area aren't wealthy either, but they still provide what the kids need but those needs have to come a little cheaper.

Myself I am not worried about a large yeild of chicks, if I get 3 or 4, that is fine and dandy for me, my son will be happy that he could be part of this process. The only money that I have in this whole thing is the incubator and the turner. I did not buy my eggs, so therefore if I loose some or all due to the 'cheapness' of this bator, then so be it. I can always try again with more free eggs or sell the thing.

I do understand where you are coming from, but this is from where I am coming from. The little giant I am using is 5 years old and still works and hold humidity and temp rather well. My mom has a Toyota corolla, all she has done to that car is Tires, Oil, Brakes. If you look up Toyota Corollas there will people that love it and people that say they have had to fix everything on that car and it still will not run right. It all depends, you can buy a brinsea and still have to buy an egg turner, the humidity pump and what ever else they have you can attach to it. Anymore we all can't afford to to spend $100's on incubators. Hence why there is a section on here for people that have made there own.

Joining in.

I am a teacher, and this is my third year hatching eggs in my classroom with an LG. My hatch rates have never been awesome, but each year we get some chicks which is very exciting for the kiddos and I!

Eggs going in the bator tomorrow. I have no idea how many I'll get as a child in a another class always gives us eggs from her chickens.

I do have a question for experience LG users on here. I'm setting up my bator, and on Fri when I left it was running nice and steady. This morning when I first got here it was a little cool (98). Now it's been reading 96.8 since about 8am. THe weather here is much cooler outside today than it was last week. Plus, it's a rainy cloudly day outside.
Big question- Should I twist the knob? I've had alot of trouble with my getting my LG temps back to steady in the past when I've twisted it over this sort of thing before. Should I just chalk it up to weather and leave it, and hope it goes back up by tomorrow?

Thanks!
