'They' say when they are fluffed out....but if you have lots of eggs till to hatch you don't want to open the incubator. If there is a problem with them being in there...like too crowded or if you are getting too worried you can quickly lift and snatch if their brooder is heated up and ready.

You can actually leave them in there for 24 hrs....I think that is what I read.

That is something I have worried about and the reason I took them out of the paper egg cartons and laid them down.....but that is something I will watch for also.

If they ever hatch that is.

Thanks for the quck response guys...Will probably move them here in a little bit as they are climbing all over the other eggs,..that being said..

ONE MORE PIPPED..YEAH baby!!

bburn..I have 7 eggs from a broody hen that was killed on day 14..I believe some of the eggs were laid later though because when we candled them at 7 days they were at different stages it seems..then again at 14 days..
I took the two out already...have them under a heatlamp in their swanky brooder..haven't given them feed or water yet though..They are sticky it seems, yet feel dry so I will monitor them closely for the next few hours, they are resting now..seems they should do that more after the ordeal of coming through a shell like that..hehe

Do you think I should wash them off? They are both from the eggs we thought would hatch the soonest as they were further along it seemed..they others are probably coming in a day or two if tehy come at all..can I leave the eggshells from the two hatched in there?

locked down today! somehow they are moving a lot. a few days ago i came home and the temp droped like 20 degrees! the cord was backed out of the plug just enough to not make contact.

i freaked! i plugged her back in and hoped for the best. the following evening i candled the eggs and to my suprise survived! out of 40 eggs i have 28 make it. the 12 that did not i think was due to not being fertle, showing 4 days into it no progress. not bad all and all!

I joined the hatch along at inception- began incubating on March 21 so this is day 22 and still nothing happening.
I read about all the rocking going on in other bators, and still nothing yet.
How long should i wait before doing an eggtopsy to see if I had quitters or never happeneds.
When I picked up my eggs they had been stored indoors at 72 degrees and had not been turned. Not washed.
They were not shipped so I let them settle a day and started them.
Had turner problems replaced motor and got them turning automatically after having to turn by hand for a few days.
Never had temperature issues or humidity aberrations, so cannot explain total wipeout.
Very unhappy, but not ready to unplug.
Locked down on day 18 as directed. Removed turner and placed eggs in paper cartons with the bottom of individual cells removed for air flow.
No eggs eggsploded from bad eggs- but I'm zero for 36 .
I hope I'm in the minority here- it hurts to get to the end and look in on 36 eggs doing absolutely nothing.

I have a pretty loaded incubator. 39 eggs....have taken two out and disposed of them....one had a blood ring at day 10 so I looked that up until I was positive and the other lit up like a light bulb when I candled it at day 15 or so.

I was not organized about looking at the rest of them although I started marking them with a pencil if I saw veins or movement. Had an hour and a half outage at day 15....still worried about that. BUT.....I feel like I will have some hatch at least. Hoping a good number of the LF cochins....Barred roo over black hens. Love me some cochins!! Then there are quite a few Barred Rocks and then the mixes that are a Buff Orpington roo over RIR hens, one Partridge rock hen, one Dark Cornish and two EE's. So will be getting an interesting mix there. Can't hurt the RIR's to have some BO in them I am thinking. That is the coop that I get most of my eggs from. Ours are tall enough when they stand on the screen to hit the element. Our first one kept laying his neck on the darn thing.
