Little Giant Hatch Along

I am going to keep hatching till I can't hatch any more, this is the best way I know how to feed my other animals, and pay some bills.
Hubby told me if I can provide for them then I can keep them , I don't know how to drive so I work from home

and this has been working out best for me.

I'm on my second batch.

The first are a very promising little flock of Black Copper Marans (all feather-shanked), and now I'm working on a nice line of Lavender Orps I plan to cross with some nice English black Orpingtons. And an assortment of other breeds for my layer flock.
I've got a friend who'll process my extra roos, as well as several local buyers who want layers.

Its hot here today out of the blue so my humidity rose to 40%. I still have not added any water either. Hope not to till lock down.

As soon as this nerve shattering hatch is over....I am returning my incubator to TSC and buying a new brinsea!!! Then I will hatch to my hearts content with purchused eggs will my current flock grows to maturity.

Hey, if you can afford it, more power to you! I built myself another incubator, but I'm still waiting for the thermostat. And the fan. The computer-size fan I tried first didn't move enough air, so I ordered a stove exhaust fan, it's 50% larger.

How are those lavender eggs coming? I tried to make my own incubator and all was going well until it smelt like something was burning ( sigh )

Now that I know how to run my LG incubator I am having the time of my life.

My broody has been stealing eggs again and I took 6 from her she was sitting on 18 eggs the crazy Hen Those were suppose to be my easter eggs lol Well she got them started for me now they are in the bator lol......

She better stop stealing eggs I saw her off the nest again today chasing the roosters and pecking them on the head she looks like a wild hen from hell ...

The reason I took them from her is cause she has a batch due on the 9th this week and the ones she stole looked to be on day 4.

She would have left them after her babies hatched and they would have died.

6 of them are coming along nicely, 2 duds. One of the six has the biggest air sac I've ever seen though, not sure that one's going to make it.

Okay, I have to admit the burning part made me laugh. I lined the bottom of mine with old aquarium rocks, and when they first heated up they smelled..well, now I know what burning dried algae would smell like.

I poured boiling water over them first to kill any spores, and after they sat and dried I put them in. When I turned the heat source on I guess there was enough residue to make a smell for the first few hours. It's all gone now, but it did freak me out till I figured out what it was. LOL

What were you making yours out of?

I am on day eight and it is driving me nuts! My LG is holding much steadier this time than the last hatch - I have actually wrapped the self sticking plastic wrap several times all the way around where the lid meets the bottom and it has made a world of difference on how well the humidity and temperatures are holding steady My first hatch, when the bator was new, had no temp or humidity problems, then the second hatch just fell apart. I really think that it "stretched" out of shape so the fit wasn't as tight. I will always wrap it in the future now that I see how much of a difference the plastic wrap has made! Of course I candled last night and wouldn't you know I dropped one of the nicest looking NH eggs. Grrrr - fumble fingers....... My shipped Buckeye eggs are looking good so far.....I am now going to KEEP MY HANDS OUT of the bator until time to candle for lock-down. That is soooooo hard for me - I want to keep checking and fiddling with the eggs - can't, can't can't!!!!!!
Good luck to everyone else! Hope you are not as much of a nervous Nellie as I am!
