Little Giant Hatch Along

It's hard to tell when you can't pop the thing open, but the last time I used a <lowers voice to a whisper> maxi pad. I put it in the front where a tube inserted through the front vent hole could reach it easily. I put more water down the tube whenever the humidity dropped by 5% or more.

Never thought of using that type of thing in the bator, probably more sanitary than the sponges.

Sounds like you've got it all figured out! I don't blame you on the shipped egg thing. I've put a lot of money into the eggs I've bought and sometimes I think Id be better off just buying day old chicks. Ive never done that though and dont want to end up with terrible quality. Do you know which hatchery is the best to buy cochins from? Keep us posted on how your hatch turns out! So exciting! I hope they do GREAT!! God Bless!

I never would have thought of it either! I was startled to come across casual references to the maxi pads in the bator on several different threads a month ago. I thought, "Well, I wouldn't have to go buy a pack of new sponges...". It worked like a charm.

had to take one of the egg carton segments out of the bator, it was getting soaked and I didn't want anything to happen to the egg. Do you think this will hurt anything, had the bator open just slightly for like 3 seconds.

If you don't have any pips yet you have nothing to worry about.

I have a question. Do I need to put something down on the top of the wire, like a towel? I noticed alot of people have there eggs lying on something. Love the Maxi pad idea

I put mine in egg cartons so they hatch with the same orientation that they had while incubating. If you've been incubating them on their sides you can just put some paper towels down over the wire.
