Little Giant Hatch Along

Ya'll stop me now if you think I am wrong about anything......

I am going to put sponges in the bottom...have some pads here of my daughters I might use in the bottom also....then paper towels. All things to hold moisture. All to go under the grid.

And I got a package of the sponge-ie stuff the we use for shelf liner because I saw it in the pictures that others posted. I suppose that because it has holes in it air can still get through but it will be easier on the little ones feet. On top of the grid.

AND I have the paper egg cartons and have cut holes in the bottom of them so humidity and air can reach the bottom of the egg but the egg carton will allow the eggs to sit basically at the same height and lots of folks say it is easier for the chicks to pip and zip.

The countdown is on.....have everything laid out like a surgery and waiting for the right time to make the transfer from turner to cartons and lockdown.

Storms coming tomorrow night. Just something else to worry over. However, my neighbor down at the bottom of the mountain has hatched already. When we had the power outage last week he hooked up his generator....am going to call him to be on standby. He can just bring the thing up here! (that is what friends are for, isn't it.....lol) Guess I could drive down the mountain with the incubartor and hook it up there....that might be more reasonable.
Temp to stay at 99.5-100 still air? Humidity to be around 70%?

If you don't have any pips yet you have nothing to worry about.

Sounds perfect! Here's the one problem I ran into humidity-wise. If the bottom of your bator is pretty well covered with eggs, all that moisture gets trapped down under the wire and doesn't get up to the egg level that well. I should think it would be even more of a problem in a still-air since the air forms layers. I ended up sliding a custard cup filled with warm water into one corner of the bator to bring the humidity up. Put rocks in the water so chicks can't climb into the cup and drown. I thought I'd mention that in case you get all set up and your humidity just won't go up where it should be and stay there. That's kind of panic-inducing when you've just gone into lockdown.

I tell ya, Mother Nature is very upset about something.

Hope all goes well in your neck of the woods. It sounds like it is pouring buckets of rain again.

Day 12 here...

Up until yesterday everything was going pretty good, my temps were steady and humidity was spot on. I had to run some errands yesterday, and by the time I got home the outside temps were in the high 80's. Went to check the bator and my temps were reading 104.0 and 103.2

It's possible they could have been at these temps for 4+ hours, not really sure though. I turned the knob down and now it's fluctuating between 98 and 100.5...... It's a still air set up, so I have some hope that maybe it'll be okay. I'm a little worried that I can't seem to get the temperature to go back up, and if I do get it up that it will spike higher as it heats up during the day. I guess all I can do now is

and pray

I would not give up hope. Since it's a still air set up. I would be more worried if it was forced air and at those temps. It was in the 80's hear as well and we had the house open, mine did a pretty good job keeping a stable temp. It did shoot up to 103.8, 3 times each time was only for a couple minutes. I am

and hoping for all your eggs to be fine

I'm on day 2 with my LG and this is my first time hatching eggs in it. Temp is holding great what should the humidity be? I'm using a indoor outdoor temp and humidity and just stuck the cord in the top hole laying on top of the eggs. Right now the humidity is 53% good / bad?

Forgot to add I'm hand turning and it's still air.
