Little Giant Hatch Along

Well, everyone, while all your eggs are rockin' and rollin', I just set 42 EEs and OEs. Half of the EE's are true Araucana (rumpless and tufted) over rosecomb brown leghorn hens, the OE's are the same Araucana roo over cuckoo Marans, so I have a chance of getting tufted and rumpless chicks from those eggs! The other EEs are F2 Barred Leghorn and Ameraucana. We lovingly call them "Alaskana". I'm stoked about these eggs.

Got the fan wired up yesterday. Fretted a lot about it and was told at a couple of hardware and electrical stores that I didn't have the right parts, so I came home and just tried it out since I had nothing to lose. Worked like a charm!

Question, for those of you that have that bulky hydrometer/thermometer from Wal-Mart, where do you put it in the LG? I had it stuck to one of the egg turner bars, but last night while I was moderating the temperature I noticed the rack it was on didn't seem to be turning, so I set it down in between. That sure is a tight fit! Not sure it won't interfere with the turner there, either.

I have the hygrometer from Wal-Mart but I didn't have a full bator, so mine sat over like to eggs slots and it turned right with the eggs. Not sure if it was the BEST place, but it was the only thing I could think of.

How is your hatch coming along?

I still just have the one pip, nothing else. The little silkie chick is chirping more now and has chipped some more egg shell off. The shell is starting to crack all around the pip, hoping she comes out soon

It probably won't be much longer.

It takes a long time to get out of a shell. Pipped last night at 6pm and emerged this morning around 11am.

Father a Buff Orpington and mother is a RIR....I think....could be a partridge rock.
