I just candled my Maran eggs before tomorrow's lock down and they are ALL measuring at 14 week air cell.... I don't know what more that i can do at this point... as they have been in the Hovabator at 40.... and will move into the LG which now is at 67-70....

You could delay lockdown for another day? Stay at the lower humidity for an extra day?

That's not uncommon with my eggs...they look like a 14 day but if you just "happen" to peek at day 20 they are just right. But I try to hit 65 at lockdown and I try (but fail) to keep my hands out of the incubator until they are done.

My next hatch is scheduled to happen when I am out of town. We'll see if the chicks do a better job on their own than with my "assistance"...or is it interference?

Well to my surprise... I found out that my Maran eggs that were measuring day 14 are actually ON TARGET... They are only on day 15!

I had two sets of Maran eggs in the bator .. one set from Ebay.. (day 15) and one set from BYC( day 17) .... I know that I am not out of the woods yet...

But man,,, what a difference a flashlight with charged up batteries makes... My husband replaced the old ones... and Wallah- I can see so well inside those dark shells!!

I have a little giant and the control is terrible. The temp fluctuates. Where are you supposed to measure temp from? I had a thermometer laying on top of the eggs at about 101. I think at the lower level it's 96. My quail eggs hatched 2 days late and less than have made it out of the shell. A few pipped. The unhatched were mature, maybe no room. Since they were due, I stopped turning and increased humidity, but they didn't hatch for at least four days more. What temp and at what level?

Still air you measure near the top of the egg and I don't know if temps differ for quail, but chicks are 101-102F. Forced air is 99.5

That's great news! What a relief!

I have a small LED Mini-Mag Lite. Changed the batteries in that puppy and I could candle eggs through the window of the incubator, if I got it aimed just right. It was so cool! Then I started thinking "I hope I don't blind these guys with this, its sooo bright!" But they came out fine, thank goodness. I admit to my candling addiction, and I must have 15 of those little cheapie flashlights that the stores stick up front by the counter. They get me every time! But that Mini-Mag is awesome!
