UPDATE: I have 8 chicks out and 8 more that I can see pips on. That just leaves 20 and most of those are my spitzhaubens. I had one chick get hurt on the fan. Standing underneath and stuck his head up beak pointed to the lid and the fan got it. Had a bit of blood in his beak. Second hatch in a row that I've had a chick get hurt in the bator. And thi,s people, is why I remove my chicks to the brooder when they hatch and become active.
So, two of these chicks are a beautiful silver color. What breeds produce silver chicks???

Silver.. sounds stunning!! picture please![]()
I have to live vicariously through you until my chick pips... I have one egg in there... on day 19.. and nada... if nothing happens by Saturday... I don't think that it will.. The cell on this egg looked pretty small when I placed it in lockdown... My next batch of 8 goes in on Saturday!
I just need one chick to hatch...to let me know that I am doing SOMETHING right with these incubators!
I think he's ok, just chipped the beak slightly.Oh my goodness, is there something you could put over the fan? Maybe just a piece of cloth? I hope it didn't hurt the beak too badly.
I am picking up lavender orpington eggs after work today and will set them when I get home. They should be silver-ish when they hatch. But I just googled "silver chick" and got all kinds of possibilities! lol I'm thinking anything with a black gene in the pool could cause silver in a chick??
Thank you.Oh my word, they are absolutely gorgeous! Congratulations!!![]()

LOL... We have 12 out now!! I will have to get those off from the camera...I've got a couple good ones from this last bunch that decided to go tandem...lolWow! Just started day 20 and 12 more pips! Impressive!!! Those chicks are darling... they look nice and healthy!! I would love to see some pics of the the eggs in the bator with pips!!
I keep watching my egg.. thinking.. is that a pip?... no....that?. .nope...
After 14 healthy no fuss chicks hatching... yes, it can't go w/o a hitch....first I find a pointed end malepositioned...ok, clear the pip hole and remove some of the shell, wrapped in a wet paper towel and replaced because he is far from ready. No biggie.....until.....I have a silkie that springs from the very tip top of the egg, (he's so eager to get out) and he still has a bit of yolk to absorb. and do you think he'll lay there and let nature finish, oh no, it's like he drank red bull and wants to be moving. So, he's confined to a plastic baby food container. I'm not so sure of his chances. They'd be better if he would lay still, but he's going to do more damage trying to do the electric slide in there. So, I pray that he makes it, but not holding out too much hope. That leaves us w/7 more pipped (and these 2).LOL... We have 12 out now!! I will have to get those off from the camera...I've got a couple good ones from this last bunch that decided to go tandem...lol
