After 14 healthy no fuss chicks hatching... yes, it can't go w/o a hitch....first I find a pointed end malepositioned...ok, clear the pip hole and remove some of the shell, wrapped in a wet paper towel and replaced because he is far from ready. No biggie.....until.....I have a silkie that springs from the very tip top of the egg, (he's so eager to get out) and he still has a bit of yolk to absorb. and do you think he'll lay there and let nature finish, oh no, it's like he drank red bull and wants to be moving. So, he's confined to a plastic baby food container. I'm not so sure of his chances. They'd be better if he would lay still, but he's going to do more damage trying to do the electric slide in there. So, I pray that he makes it, but not holding out too much hope. That leaves us w/7 more pipped (and these 2).

All I can picture is this chicken getting down to the Electric slide in your bator!! LOL Hopefully he will settle down for you and absorb that yoke.. I read somewhere online where you can use something to confine them while they finish their business... I think it was in the assisted hatch thread?

Yeah, I tried that. Unless I got a big bowl, it's useless.... he will not stay put. He flipped himself out of what I had him in, so I flipped him over, removed all the egg shell stuck in the yolk goo, hoping it would absorb if nothing was stuck in it, wrapped him burrito style in a damp paper towl and Ill be darned if he didn't flip flop himself out of that and now has a ton more of shell pieces. I just know he's a male... I think I'm up to 16 hatched, npt counting him. I have TWO malepositioned buggers. I'm pretty sure that 3 of the eggs are gonners, possibly four. If all the other's hatch I'm looking at roughly 30-32 at finish. 36 out of 42 had made it to lockdown, so I can handle those numbers, especially in a little giant bator...lol

I had my first April hatchling make its appearance yesterday! It was supposed to be sacrificial egg to tide my broodies over until the eggs I wanted them to hatch got here. When I went to switch them out, I checked them all before I pitched them. That one egg was developing, so I popped it into the 'bator. Yesterday it managed to make its way out of the shell in 35% humidity. I wasn't about to up the humidity and risk the other eggs in the incubator, so I figured if it was meant to be, it would be. And I guess it was! Its a cute little blue Silkie or Sizzle and its motoring around the brooder at the moment, kicking feed all over the place and freaking out the 2 3 week old Silkie and Sizzle chicks that were already living in there :gig

Wow! With 35%- I shrinkwrapped my chicks at 50!! That little chick is something special!!

I have the LG 9300 & after only a 50% hatch rate on our first attempt (with most of those hatching early), I got a fan kit & a Brinsea thermometer. Unbelievably the LG thermometer is off by up to 5-6 degrees in spots! It's amazing we had any hatch. I know the Brinsea is supposed to be very accurate, but should I trust it completely?

I'm thinking the same thing about the Brinsea thermometer. All my others are a few degrees higher, so if its actually as low as the Brinsea says, I'm surprised my ducks just hatched.

Mine is off the other way, which does make sense as my chicks hatched early. I'm just surprised they survived with it so far off! It's now settled at reading about 3 degrees higher than the LG thermometer & I stuck a probe style meat thermometer in there for a third opinion & it's reading very close to the Brinsea, so at this point I'm inclined to trust it.
