little giant incubator...is it good?

Do you have to have a fan for a little giant still air incubator to work good?

I experienced hot spots in my LG, the fan helped some. PC fan on 6v not strong enough, go for a 12v. I would definitely put on a dimmer knob; Lg cannot adjust very well to weather changes (room fluctuations) and needs constant monitoring. I put in 24 eggs and rolled by hand with 4 quart size canning jars of water inside; 2 on each side. This slowed down any up or down spikes. I burned a lot of midnight oil monitoring and adjusting. I KEPT A DETAILED NOTEBOOK ! !!!!!!

I learned a whole lot using the LG; monitoring humidity, air cell sizes and temp is key. LG is a great learning experience and is easy to mess up. Don't expect a great hatch the first time. I was super excited to get 12 out of 24 (my own eggs).

By the time I spent money here and there on the things I didn't have laying about, I could have bought a better quality incubator.

Because of this experience I have built my own, figuring I can build one cheaper and still be as successful. But since I have not tested it yet . . .. I'll see about that.

Go for a better quality incubator.

I always have had great hatches with my LG,it's still air no auto turner but you do have to watch it.Mostly at the last week, had 85 to 100% hatch rate ,the bators over 3 years old
