I have a new LG with the thermometer that hangs down to lay on top of the eggs. How does this work for lock down? I'm concerned if chicks hatch under the plastic sheet it could harm them, or they'll get tied up in the wires hanging down. All the info I'm finding online is for the old style with the knob, not the digital version with this big thing hanging down lol For people with the new LG how do you handle lock down? I prepare the eggs for lockdown tonight as day 18 starts at 11:30.

I'm tickled to hear I'm not the only one who sets eggs later at night. :D You are the second person I've come across. :caf My husband swears I'm the only one! (Please don't burst my bubble and say you mean 11:30 AM!:fl) Anyway, if day 18 starts at 11:30 tonight, lockdown begins at 11:30 tomorrow night, at the end of day 18. I have to think of it like it's their 18th birthday, so I don't start a four day lockdown. I know I wanted to "lockdown" my human kids on their 18th birthday! :lau

I have horrible insomnia so I usually set late at night. At least then I don't have kids bouncing around me!

I set when I can and go into lock down some times on day 17 or on day 18 or 19(if I am out of town or real busy). If I set at night I might wait till the morning after their "18th" birthday to lock down. Has no effect on my hatches.

I'm not asking about when to lock down. I just want to know about the large plastic sheet being in the way of chicks hatching out and how I should ensure their safety.

Missed the "plastic sheet", never heard of it. Is it a little tab on the thermometer sensor? See the pic you posted while I was typing----never had one of those. I feel sure I would not hurt anything but personally if the built in thermometer is off----I would move that up out the way.

This incubator is brand new to me. I just bought it about a month ago. I'm concerned if I unhook it, it will cause the heater to run continuously. I might try to stand it up on one side as out of the way as I can. It will definitely be a topic I add in when I review the incubator.
