Little Giant Incubator Tricks

For turkeys I go to 70-80% and lower the temp a hair; sometimes my chicks hatch in the hatcher uner 25% humidity. My guess after much hatching is this-- fast zippers don't need the higher humidity. THe higher humidity is beneficial for the slow to zip poults and chicks.

I help those that get stuck as I figure it is my fault I didn't getthe humidity right.

Omg!!!! Was just about to go to bed and heard a noise. ..eggs are rolling and chirping! !!!!! Yeah! !!!! 11:15pm...yup no plans of going to sleep now...ughhh wish I wasn't working tomorrow! !! So want to wake up kids!!!! Woke up DH...he rolled over smiling and back to snoring lol!!!!

I am having the worst hatch this time! I set 11 single comb RIW eggs and 9 of my own barnyard eggs 23 days ago......I had 2 broodies sitting on 24. Out of all of that......1 hatched in the middle of the night from the broodies and fell out of the box and got trampled apparently.....so 1 out of all of those birds....I'm disappointed!

I have had some great hatches lately and some not so great. Of my RC RIR hatches, out of 15 eggs, 6 turned out to be not fertile and I have 7 successfully hatch. The others just quit. I had 18 eggs in another hatch and of those 12 were successful, but one warm day I had the chicks out side in a temporary pen next to where my DH was working and a hawk swooped in and scooped up one of the chicks. Another hatch of 28 out of 32 were successful. You just never know... I would like to hatch out some RSL but need to move some birds around and free up a breeding pen. My DH decommissioned one of my coops and took the pen down and wants to sell the coop. He wants me to cut down my flock. I went from around 400 to now around 125. with the chicks around 175 + or - a few. I loose count. I have 10 coops.

I have decided to give them more time in the incubator. I left for a few hours today, and came home to peeping under one of my broody hens, a white bird out of a brown egg....hard to say which parents but a healthy baby none the least! I brought it up and put it in the brooder as I don't want this one to get trampled or get knocked out of the nest.

Heres to hoping
