Little Giant Incubator Tricks

thanks for the help! I have good news to report. My husband took it apart, blew it out and greased the bearings. It is now working great!! He wants me to let it sit overnight to soak the WD40 up, and then I'll plug it in and see if it holds. I only want to use it as a hatcher since my cabinet doesn't have a window to see in.

Hurray! What ever saves some money!

Has anyone ever had to replace the fan in the LG? Mine just shot craps. l checked connections everything appears fine..

I was going to replace just the fan, but would like to know, if anyone has done this, where to purchase one from. I can't find a LG website. There are a couple on Ebay... Just checking with Ya'll first.

Glad to hear you might have that thing fixed! I wanted to let you know that I've seen replacements at our local TSC and other feed stores for less than $45. Don't know if that helps cause sounds like you might be set!!!

Thanks Cowchick! Fingers crossed cuz I'm going to start it up today and see if it holds. Our TSC doesn't have any. That's the first place I checked. I have a feeling it will be okay. It was pretty dusty in the bearings part of the thing. (technical terms are not in my vocab.) :) The spinny thingy was stuck.

LG does have a web site; the trick is finding the manufacturing name. Little Giant is made by Miller MFG. as I recall, haven't looked at it for a year. EVen can get manuals, etc. and parts, and othe stuff for the LG. Sorry I forgot to mention this earlier. Just an FYI as this point. Hope the cleaning did turn out to be the solution. GL

Thanks! Very good to know.

Now that winter is here some people have asked about keeping the LG temperature more stable. This is what I do. I put a towel over the incubator and it hasn't affected my hatches at all. This is when our power went out last winter and the temp outside was in the 30's. When we lost power, I was 2 weeks into incubation. The temp in the incubator was 78 degrees when I discovered it. I put the incubator on a battery pack with an inverter and brought the temp back up. I was really worried but I still had good hatches.

I cover the back half of mine with a towel and put it in a room that stays as close to 70 degrees as possible and I don't have very much temp. fluctuation at all in my still air LG. I've recently switched to the dry hatch method where you keep the humidity low until lockdown and then you raise the humidity to 60% or so. I've just had the best hatch I've ever had. Before I started using the dry hatch method I was getting a lot of dead in shell chicks...3-8 per hatch and with this hatch not one single dead in shell baby!
