The range of opinion around here is that you have to get them out somewhere between 48 and 72 hours or their yoke sack will run out and they'll starve.

So I guess to play it safe, I'll open it up every 48 hours, starting with the first hatch, and re-humidify and re-heat it rapidly by adding hot (not too hot) water to the soup cup I keep inside the incubator.

That's exactly what I said not too long ago on another thread. I think these people who get the fancy incubators that do everything for them are not so great to start out with. I mean, if you are incubating parrot eggs, Yeah I understand. I think that every starter should get a Little Giant incubator. If you have never hatched I don't recommend the sportsman cabinet incubators either. I think that starting out with the "not so good incubator" means that you will REALLY appreciate the one's that are "set and forget." After 5 years with my Little Giants I got an Rcom Mini digital incubator. The humidity is way too high in it for me. I have gotten two to hatch out of 4. The others that I set were infertile.

I do think you guy's have said it well..................... Buying these things will either make you or break your hatching technic. Think about it this way. By buying this nightmare of an incubator you will get a free lesson in futility and if you make it through it your much better off. We had better not let out this little bit of info, or else the chinese manufactures of the LG will raise their prices, cause your getting something for free LOL.

I totally agree but I do own a sportsman cabinet incubator. I incubate in the cabinet but still do my hatching in my LG.

I too use the LG. ANd yes, during my first hatch I learned oodles about incubating and hatching. Sometimes I hate the LG and at other times we have a good working relationship. Mot reacetnly it has become temperamental; temp varies in several locations so I opt for rotating the top. I also noticed that over night is when the temps have risen the most. I turn by hand and noticed that when I work and don't turn the eggs for 9 hours the temp rises. Odd little machine--keeps me thinking and learning!

CMOM--what glue did you use to attach the cap???

I'm south of Worcester!

LG is causing me angst! High temp on the floor near the front was 104 and the temp real time at the top of the eggs at the back was 97 .

These are eggs I bought--my future breeders.

I rotated the hot spot to the back and moved the eggs forward out of that zone.

I'm really struggling getting the humidity up. Other than the fan, I have the same set up. Instead of 1 jar, I have 3! My humidity, with the same hygrometer you have, is sitting around 45%! There is even fog on part of the windows. Should I consider my hygrometer to be malfunctioning? I'm in a bit of panic at the moment because of the low humidity. There isn't much more water I could add.
