I also keep my LG in a closet to help with temp flux - when it gets warm in the house, it seems to help if I open the door of the closet.

Quick question...

When day 18 comes, do I need to completely take out the turner? Or do I just need to unplug it?

I'm kind of scared to unplug because it will cause the temp to drop in the incubator. GAH!

GAH!!! Not a single fresh Langshan egg is fertile. The temp must be too high outside for his sperm...makes me sick.


2 of the fridge Langshan eggs are fertile so we'll be keeping those in there for a bit longer. From 30 down to 16. Not good....


On the bright side, I now have 2 hens in with the blue cockerel. Lord knows he's been trying to scratch an itch for awhile.

I think I'm going to put Clyde's son in with him and see how they fare. If there's no huge bickering between them, they'll stay and breed the remaining 4 hens together.

Yup temp goes down when it comes out, but now that it is very warm out, you might not need to bother with adjusting temp.

LOL! I almost wish this were outside, but I like it inside. So I can watch it closer. Still, frustrating as all get out.

I REALLY hope something comes of the blue x blue breeding. She was acting broody last week. Lord knows everything else in that pen is broody...

The temp of the air changes faster than the eggs do, and does so in greater fluctuation. By a lot.
The eggs have mass and density and don't cool or heat as fast as the air does...fan or no fan.

Say you take an egg out to candle it....if you leave the incubator open the temp in that will stabilize to the room temp in a couple minutes but the egg you took out will probably not change a degree in that same time. The incubator temp can go from 99 to 79 in just a few minutes, but the egg won't do the same.

The greater the temperature difference between the air outside the incubator, and the air inside the incubator the faster the temperature will seem to change.

MiniBeesKnees, thank you but that's not exactly what I'm worried about.

The motor from the turner is creating heat inside the incubator as well. When I remove the turner, it will decrease the temp in the incubator, so I will have to adjust the temperature to compensate for the lost heat from the motor.

I dont adjust the temps on my Little Giant When I take the turner out if the temp goes down alittle I just put a towel around the sides It seems to help I have also put wah clothes folded over the windows to help hold in heat. Once I get the temp set at 99.5 I never touch it again. This has worked for me I just put 35 eggs in the hatcher from my little giant and so far 28 have hatched on day 21. I think the people who have the most problems with the little giants are the ones who constantly change the temp settings. JMHO Micki
